A Memorial

Jim and I spent 14 cherished years full of love, beauty and adventure with a tenacious and energetic Parson's Terrier named Lily. In those 14 years, where we rarely spent a moment without her, she gave us unimaginable joy. In December while still at the marina in Guaymas, Mexico working on a few boat maintenance projects, Lily wasn't her energetic, happy self and was not able to keep food down. We drove her to the nearest big city, Hermasillo, to a pet hospital. Her kidneys had failed; and while they tried to stabilize her enough to make the trip home, it was not meant to be. She suffered less than 24 hours before it was clear that it was her time. We held her, holding back our tears while speaking to her gently as she passed peacefully into her final sleep. Unable to contunue our sailing season, we spent a few days putting the boat away before heading back home. We brought Lily home in a little box full of ash and a tiny glass vile they filled with her fur.
The loss of our little girl has been unimaginably difficult for both of us. Even now, nearly four months after losing her, we still feel the grief sharply and at times have to remind ourselves to breathe. Thanks to our sailing friends who were all so kind and sympathetic. And thanks also our friends here at home for their compassion and understanding. Life goes on, and with the love of those in our lives we make it through.
I wasn't sure if I would ever write another blog again, but I knew that the first step was to write about Lily's death and commemorate her life. This is something I needed to help me move on. Lily will always be in our hearts as Jim and I continue to live a life full of love, beauty and adventure. Lily, you will always be with us in spirit...we love you always.
If you can, it takes about 13 minutes (3 songs), to watch a video I've put together to honor Lily. And if you have a fur-baby of your own, love them the best you can while you can...

This is why we write blogs. To connect our feelings with those outside. All dogs go to heaven they say, and Lily will have a spot right at the front of the line. We were all fortunate to share in your adventures with her, and I know you will always treasure her memory.
What a beautiful post, It made me teary eyed, thank you for sharing this wonderful memory, love you both
